MediaBlaster: WordPress as a publishing platform

Rovidx built MediaBlaster’s WordPress/PHP content and publishing layer, connected through custom REST APIs to a Roku SceneGraph application.

  • Content models and publishing tools for video, series, episodes, podcasts, media metadata and app configuration.
  • REST endpoints for catalogs, item details and stable deep-link resolution.
  • Vimeo import and podcast/RSS workflows, with setup guidance, packaging and testing.

How the MediaBlaster platform connects

  1. 1. WordPress publishing

Editors manage structured media content, metadata and app configuration.

  2. 2. Custom REST API

Catalogs, item details and deep links become a predictable contract for the application.

  3. 3. Connected Roku application

The SceneGraph application presents the content and handles navigation and playback.

Project fit

When your WordPress site needs more than a content edit

Work with Rovidx on a defined change to a WordPress platform, or begin with an assessment when the right approach is unclear. We review the existing setup before recommending what to keep, extend or replace.

Custom plugins and publishing tools

Build PHP functionality, custom content models and editorial tools around how your team works. Agree the required behaviour, permissions and acceptance checks before development.

REST APIs and integrations

Connect WordPress content to another application or publishing workflow. Define the data, authentication, error handling and responsibilities on each side of the connection.

Existing-site assessment and takeover

Review an inherited WordPress/PHP site, plugins, theme and hosting dependencies. Identify what can be stabilized or improved, and where unsupported components may require replacement.

Delivery

Agree the work before changing the live site

Review the platform

Share the current site, the problem to solve and existing developer arrangements. We establish the access, code, hosting and third-party dependencies needed to assess the work. Arrange credential access securely.

Define the scope

Agree deliverables, exclusions, estimates and acceptance checks. A review may lead to a targeted plugin change, an integration, staged modernization or a recommendation to replace part of the system.

Build and verify

Use a suitable staging environment, check relevant content and user workflows, and test integrations and failure paths. Agree backups, rollback and the release window before changing production.

Hand over clearly

Provide the agreed code, configuration and setup notes. Document dependencies and publishing steps, and confirm who handles updates, hosting and future changes.

Support boundaries

Define ongoing support around the actual system

Development and ongoing care have different responsibilities. Confirm them in the engagement so your team knows who to contact and what is covered.

Ownership, hosting and third-party costs

Agree code ownership and handoff terms, hosting and domain arrangements, plugin licences and any external service fees before work begins. Existing supplier accounts and contracts need review as part of a takeover.

Updates, responses and escalation

Maintenance, monitoring, response arrangements, onsite work and escalation are agreed per engagement. A development project does not automatically include ongoing updates or 24/7 support.

FAQs

Common questions

Can you take over an existing WordPress site?

We can assess an existing WordPress/PHP platform before accepting a takeover. Share its purpose, the changes you need and any current developer or hosting arrangements. We review code, dependencies and access, then agree what can be supported, improved or replaced.

Do you build custom WordPress plugins and APIs?

Yes. MediaBlaster is a Rovidx-owned product that demonstrates custom WordPress content models, publishing tools and REST APIs connected to a Roku application. Your plugin or integration is scoped around its own requirements, dependencies and acceptance checks.

Does a WordPress development project include maintenance?

Only when it is included in the agreed scope. Hosting, domains, licences, updates, backups, monitoring and response arrangements need named responsibilities. Continuing maintenance and support are agreed separately from the initial development work.

Should we keep WordPress or move to another platform?

That depends on your content, integrations, editorial needs and ability to maintain the system. We review those needs before recommending an extension, staged modernization or a platform change. Moving away from WordPress is not a prerequisite for working with Rovidx.

Looking for a different website engagement?

For a public website refresh, start with website redesign and modernization. Compare managed website plans for a new business website with ongoing care, or explore custom software development for a broader application.

The NWT website design cost guide explains managed-plan terms and continuing costs. WordPress development and integrations are scoped separately from those published plan prices.

If your existing site needs continuing care rather than a development project, review website maintenance and takeover. Coverage and price depend on the platform and responsibilities agreed after assessment.

Next step

Discuss your WordPress project

Share your site URL, what needs to change, the tools it connects to and any existing developer or hosting arrangements. Choose WordPress/PHP in the custom software inquiry. We agree scope, delivery and support before work begins.
